Movie Review - Tiger Zinda Hai – by Suhel Johar

Image
Tiger Zinda Hai Is Undeniably A Delight For All Sallu Lovers. When you have a blockbuster precursor, the pressure is really high to keep up the reputation of the franchise. Coming nearly after 5 and half years after the first installment, Tiger Zinda Hai doesn’t have the original director Kabir Khan calling the shots. Instead it’s helmed by the Sultan director Abbas Ali Zafar, probably given to him after the stupendous success of Sultan . Is the sequel as good as EkThaTiger ?. The answer is both yes and a no. Tiger Zinda Hai picks off right where its precursor Ek Tha Tiger left off. Its eight years since the two super spies, Tiger (Salman Khan) and Zoya (Katrina Kaif) left the life of espionage and have adopted a much calmer and ordinary life somewhere in Austria. So, this is a continuation of the original story.   The ex-agent is lured from his tranquil life by ex-boss Shenoy Girish Karnad), the head of RAW. The reason — 40 nurses (25 Indian, 15 Pakistani) are held

Movie Review - Fukrey Returns – by Suhel Johar

Image
Fukrey Returns Is Not Half As Good As The Original   Fukrey ’s USP was its rawness and simplicity. Four years after the original hilarious Fukrey comes its sequel, Fukrey Returns . The plot of the prequel was simple to understand and didn’t get too complex in any of the acts. The characterizations were unique and so were the plots . Fukrey deserved a sequel for its sheer rawness and original humour. However, Fukrey Returns is not a deserving sequel. Well it tries to be one though. The film starts with a song which recaps the prequel in five minutes to have the people know the context and where the story ended. The sequel starts after a year of that. The guys lives are more or less the same, except that Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) has an SUV now and even manages to inform his girl friend Priya’s (Priya Anand) father that he wants to marry his daughter. Choocha (Varun Sharma) still dreams, has premonitions and continues to be smitten by Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadha). Lali (Man

Movie Review - Tera Intezaar - by Suhel Johar

Image
Tera Intezaar Is Boring And Bizarre. When the filmmakers are obviously banking on Sunny Leone’s oomph quotient and some peppy numbers to do the trick, you know it’s not going to work – especially since it’s all become so stale and uninteresting of late. Supposedly a romantic thriller, Tera Intezaar takes the ‘lovely locations’ (Mumbai, Kutch and Mauritius) route to win over some audience, but even that small objective appears to be a far cry. Art Gallery owner Raunak (Sunny Leone) falls in love with a natural Artist, a painter Veer (Arbaaz Khan). But then Veer disappears, and the rest of the film takes us on a precipitous search for true love with the help of a medium (Sudha Chandran) and some but obvious villainy – heavy laden with songs, scantily clad nubile displays and copiously manufactured intrigue. By the end of it you are left reeling from the overwhelming capriciousness of the entire exercise in futility. The forced inserts of levity and the addition of thrills

Wrapped in the tricolour, the late star was cremated with state honours at the Santa Cruz crematorium, with a three-gun salute by Mumbai Police. His body was taken to Prithvi Theatre first. The hearse was accompanied by several family members, sheltering from the torrential rain under umbrellas - Shashi Kapoor's son Kunal, nephews Randhir and Rishi, who rushed back to Mumbai from a film shoot. Movie Review – Firangi – by Suhel Johar

Image
Not This Time Again Kapil Sharma! Kapil Sharma is one of the biggest names in Indian comedy. After a successful career as a stand up comedian Kapil Sharma decided to become an actor. Firangi is Kapil Sharma's second outing but like his debut film, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon   he has once again failed to impress you. The Rajiev Dhingra directed Firangi was initially set to release on 10 November 2017 which was moved to 24 November 2017 but on 21 November, the release date was again postponed due to the delay in obtaining a censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification The story of Firangi tells a tale of pre-independent India, a time when people across the country were uniting against the British rule. However, Mangat Ram aka Manga (Kapil Sharma), a village simpleton who has been branded as ‘useless’ by his family and villagers, seems to be the only person who has a reason to believe that the British may not be that bad after all. Manga has a special sk

Movie Review - Kadvi Hawa – by Suhel Johar

Image
Kadvi Hawa Is An Impressive Film Dealing With Issues Like Global Warming And Climate Change. Directed by National Award winner Nila Madhab Panda Kadvi Hawa is about global warming and its harmful effects. Based on true stories the film is an eye-opening portrayal of the suffering of people and gives a wakeup call to the society which seems still unprepared to face the consequences of their actions on climate change. Based on true stories, Kadvi Hawa is a bitter pill that reminds one about the dark winds of change. Global warming and climate change are real and are caused by human activity. Despite not showing any such activity that is destroying the civilization, the film makes a heartfelt point in a straightforward way. It speaks about the state of the environment, the destruction of our civilization, the plight of the farmers and of the people living in coastal areas. Based in the ravines of Mahua in Bundelkand Kadvi Hawa tells the story of a blind man named Hedu (Sa

Image
There will be no Padmavati on December 1, its makers Viacom18 Motion Pictures have voluntarily decided to defer the release following raging protests by several Rajput groups, including the Karni Sena, for allegedly “distorting” historical facts. The controversy took an ugly turn earlier this week when Karni Sena leaders threatened to cut off Deepika Padukone’s nose. While some other fringe groups have announced financial reward of upto 5 crore rupees to the person whoever will behead the film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Viacom18 Motion Pictures announced on Sunday, a day after Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje urged the Centre to ensure that the controversial movie is not released without “necessary” changes. Interestingly, with just 10 days to go, the film had still not received a clearance from the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification).

Movie Review - Tumhari Sulu - by Suhel Johar

Image
Tumhari Sulu Is One Of The Best Films To Come Out In 2017. It Is A Slice Of A Life Film Which Is Worth Your Ticket Price. Tumhari Sulu is an extraordinary story of an ordinary woman. A story about a housewife-next-door. Writer director Suresh Triveni proves one does not need a complicated or even a complex plot to come up with a great movie. Tumhari Sulu is perhaps one of the most entertaining films of 2017. With its refreshing narrative, Tumhari Sulu is simply relatable and endearing. Sulochana aka Sulu (Vidya Balan), is a chirpy and melodramatic stay-at-home mom, who is ambitious and awaits the right opportunity.   She is ever smiling, confident, full of ideas, slightly plump and yet sensuous. She loves to mimic Hema Malini and Sridevi and calls in and wins prizes on FM radio shows. Her husband Ashok Dubey (Manav Kaul) and 11 year old son Pranav (Abhishek Sharrma) complete her world. Ashok is an honest employee at a garment factory since twelve long years. Bul

Cricketers Owned Restaurants by Suhel Johar

Image
Cricketers earning immense money on and off the field aren’t unheard of. But since a lot of their income mainly depends on their form, several of the cricketers plunge into business ventures to keep them financially secure after their cricketing career comes to an end. While cricketers like Dhoni and Virat Kohli entered the fitness business, several others like Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan plunged into restaurant ownership. Considering their brand image in itself is sufficient for their business to run a successful course, a lot of Indian cricketers have taken up hospitality entrepreneurship. Ravindra Jadeja in a similar fashion opened up a restaurant as well. Following a cricket theme, the restaurant earned immense popularity ever since its launch in 2012. However, Jadeja’s restaurant sometime back witnessed some ill fate when a court ordered smashing a part of the restaurant to the ground. Stating that the restaurant had illegally obtained extra property, the acti
