Movie Review - Rangoon by Suhel Johar

Image
Rangoon Is One Of The Weakest Films Of Vishal Bhardwaj.   Although a lot of patriotic flavour has been added to the film but the film can be said to be an out and out romantic film set against backdrop of World War II. Unfortunately for Bhardwaj Rangoon fails not just as a patriotic drama but as a romance between three strong-willed individuals. Nawab Ali (Shahid Kapoor) serves British Army and accidentally meets superstar Julia (Kangana Ranaut) on his way to Burma. Rusi Billimoria (Saif Ali Khan), who is the biggest film producer of that time, is madly in love with Julia. Julia and her assistants get trapped in the attack and Nawab rescues Julia. The two lose the way and reach an isolate village. The two gradually fall in love, but on the other hand, Rusi is in search of Julia. He seeks help from British Army and finds his love Julia back home but it is too late now. Julia gives away her heart to Nawab. Is there a happy ending for Nawab and Julia's brewing

Movie Review – Running Shaadi by Suhel Johar

Image
Running Shaadi Can Be Given A Miss.   A 23-year-old Ram Bharose (Amit Sadh), his teenaged geek friend Sarabjeet Sidana aka ‘Cyberjeet’(Arsh Bajwa) and his ex-employer's daughter Nimmi (Taapsee Pannu) strike upon an ingenious brainwave of starting a website that helps young couples in Amritsar to escape their parents' expectations and get married after eloping. Bharose’s latest startup may be full of risks but somehow Nimmi is convinced of its prospects and is full on with Bharose in his new business venture. A large part of the first half is spent in establishing its main characters and their equations with each other. The young lead pair, Ram Bharose and Nimmi, talk about her menstrual cycle, discuss premarital sex, abortions and other ‘sensitive’ topics casually, like how most young people do. A few years ago the whole thing would have sounded ridiculous and totally blasphemous. But what we witness here is totally commendable and believable from a couple th

Movie Review - The Ghazi Attack by Suhel Johar

Image
The Ghazi Attack, Does Not Live Up To The Expectations.   The Ghazi Attack is supposed to be inspired by true events from the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. One really wonders how much of the film is based on true or real life events and how much of the film is imaginary and inspired. The film is based on the version of the Indian navy's attack on Pakistan's submarine Ghazi that sunk near Visakhapatnam. Following intelligence reports that Pakistan is planning to attack one of India's ports, an S-21 submarine is sent into the sea. Led by Capt Ranvijay Singh (Kay Kay Menon), officer Devaraj (Atul Kulkarni) and Lieutenant Arjun (Rana Daggubati), the submarine begins a classified search mission. The Pakistani submarine Ghazi comes close to East Coast of India to target INS Vikrant. How S-21 submarine attacks Ghazi and sinks it forms the rest of the story. It was a classified mission that no one knew of. It is clearly a mystery regarding what actually caused the PNS Gha

Movie Review - Irada by Suhel Johar

Image
Irada Is An Exercise In Futility Irada opens with a comprehensive mandatory disclaimer (one gets to read it in every second film now but this week we got to read the same in two films, the other being The Ghazi Attack): "All characters, activities, locations, names, situations and persons (living or dead) portrayed or used in this film are fictitious and any resemblance or similarity to reality is a pure coincidence and unintended. Even though certain incidents may be inspired by media reports, the film depicts nothing more than a fictionalized account of the same for dramatization of a fictional story. The film, its producers, director, artists, writers or other persons associated with the film do not intend to offend, outrage, insult, damage, hurt the sentiments or feelings of any person, community, class of persons, religion, region, state or country in any way." All right, then it is established straightaway that Irada is fiction but the fact is that the deb

Movie Review - Jolly LLB 2 by Suhel Johar

Image
Jolly LLB 2 May Not Be Perfect But It certainly Is A Gripping Film. Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, The State vs Jolly LL.B 2 or commonly known as simply Jolly LLB 2 is a black comedy film. A sequel to the 2013 film Jolly LLB, the film stars Akshay Kumar as the main protagonist instead of Arshad Warsi who was the protagonist in the original.   A satirical courtroom drama that comments on the Indian legal system as a whole and the effect that the judicial system has on the common man. “Jolly LLB 2” tells the story of an awkward lawyer played by Akshay Kumar, who takes on a high-profile case in a satirical look at the legal system.   Although the film was cleared with no cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification board. Advocate Ajaykumar Waghmare had filed a case at the Bombay High Court for removal of certain scenes that allegedly poked fun at lawyers. Waghmare had also demanded removal of the word LLB from the film’s title stating that the use of the
