Movie Review - Hate Story IV – by Suhel Johar
Hate
Story IV Is Unique In Is Sheer Freakishness
Hate
Story IV is another instalment of the popular Hate Story franchise. The hit formula
of this bizarre movie franchise is to serves its audience with an ample amount
of sex along with a side dish of revenge and betrayal. The latest edition of
the franchise is no exception. Its two leading ladies, Ihana Dhillon and
Urvashi Rautela make sure that the film doesn't lack in the oomph department.
Hate
Story IV starts on a melodramatic note which, as the story
proceeds, is a flashback point. It’s about two rich spoilt conceited brothers,
Aaryan (Vivan Bhatena) and Rajveer (Karan Wahi) who think that the entire world
revolves around them and their money. As
Aryan and wife Rishma (Ihana Dhillon) look for a new face for their cosmetics line-up,
it’s the lusty Rajveer who brings in Tasha (Urvashi Rautela), a stripper, who
is waiting for her luck to shine bright like a star. The damsel in distress
Tasha seeks younger brother Rajveer’s help to make her fortune in the world of
glamour, where Aaryan falls head over heels in love with Tasha’s beauty. Aware
of both the brother’s intentions, Tasha has a plan to seek revenge for her
brother’s death that occurred two years back in Mumbai.
The interval point reveals half of the mystery and rest
of the story unfolds in the second half. Introduction of Vikram (Gulshan
Grover), dad of Aryan and Rajveer, brings in the humour quotient. The faceoff
oF brothers, the revelation of Tasha’s secrets and what happens with Rishma is
what Hate Story IV is all about.
The film has brothers falling for the same girl,
faceoff in the climax and many more things which we’ve seen before. There
surely are some interesting twists and turns but the below average narration
kills the pace. Director Vishal Pandya also takes too many cinematic liberties
by introducing some silly loopholes with it. In such films, skin show is always
on top on the priority list. This film is badly conceived and executed with am
incoherent narrative. There have been many films like it. But this one is
unique in its sheer freakishness.
Director Vishal Pandya, who joined this franchise since
part 2 has delivered another below average fare that may appeal only to a
certain section of the audience. Penned by Vishal Pandya, the story of Hate Story IV is same old revenge
drama. Screenplay by Vishal Pandya and Sameer Arora is hackneyed. Dialogue by
Milap Zaveri is mundane. Cinematography by Sunita Radia is good. Editing by
Manish More is poor. Music by Inder Bawra and Sunny Bawra is nothing much to
talk about.
Performancewise, tv host and comedian Karan Wahi impresses
and clearly the pick of the lot. Urvashi Rautela looks stunning and has been
presented well but she can’t emote to save her life. Vivan Bhatena is pretty decent.
Ihana Dhillon does her part well. Gulshan Grover brings in the comic relief in
the second half.
On the whole, watch Hate Story IV only if you are an ardent follower of the franchise.
