Check Out Six Replacements In The Sequels Of Popular Franchises. - Suhel Johar
2017 saw successful instalments of popular franchises
making money at the box office. Films like Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again, Pulkit Samrat’s Fukrey
Returns, Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda
Hai, Baahubali 2 hit the
bullseye with the same cast and but new plotline. The makers made it a point to
reunite the same family of actors and give the audience a treat of nostalgia
plus newness. But will the instalments run successfully if the cast gets
changed? Well, 2018 is full of such instalments. The old popular franchises
will come with sequels and a NEW cast.
Kick
2:
Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez set the temperatures soaring when they
paired up for Kick. So when Sajid
Nadiadwala announced that Kick 2
will hit the floors soon and release in the week of Christmas 2019, everyone
thought Salman and Jacqueline would pair up for the sequel too. But apparently
Jacqueline is no longer a part of the franchise! In fact, Kick 2 has a completely new plot and character, hence the team of
Kick decided to cast a new leading lady. The makers are currently in talks with
a few actresses but no one has been finalised yet though Amy Jackson is said to
be a front runner to be cast opposite Salman in Kick 2.
Singh
Is Kinng: Well, Akshay Kumar won the heart as a desi, hilarious
and helpful King aka ‘Happy’ in this light-hearted film. He then went on to do Singh Is Bling, however, in the new
Singh franchise, the role of Happy is offered to Ranveer Singh. Ranveer has the
same zeal and energy so we can hope that he might fit in into the shoes.
Race
3:
We saw two popular instalments of Abbas-Mustan’s Race with Saif Ali Khan in the lead. Initially, it was reported
that Saif Ali Khan will repeat his character from the previous films. However,
for the third one, the producer has not only replaced Saif Ali Khan with Salman
Khan but also replaced the directors of the franchise Abbas-Mustan with Remo
D'Souza. Shah Rukh Khan was offered a negative role in Race 3, but he turned down the role, reportedly from lack of interest
in playing another villain. The almost entirely new cast of the film features
Booby Deol, Daisy Shah, Jacqueline Fernandez, Saqib Saleem and Pooja Hegde. The
only constant character in the film is that of Anil Kapoor aka Rober D’costa.
Namastey
England: Remember the sweet love story of Akshay Kumar and
Katrina Kaif, Namastey London? The
Namastey franchise makers are back with the sequel sans these two stars. Akki
and Kat will be replaced by Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in the lead and
the film will once again have the backdrop of England.
Student
Of The Year 2: The debut film of Alia Bhatt- Sidharth
Malhotra- Varun Dhawan i.e., Student of
The Year, is back with the sequel SOTY
2, this time with another cast. The sequel will have Tiger Shroff and Ananya
Pandey in the lead.
Aashiqui
3:
Just like two previous instalments, the third one too is about a new couple.
After the hit love stories of Anu Aggarwal- Rahul Roy and Aditya Roy Kapur-
Shraddha Kapoor, the next one has rumoured lovebirds Alia Bhatt and Sidharth
Malhotra in the lead. But one wonders if Aashiqui
3 will go ahead with Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra now that they've
reportedly broken up and are no longer a pair.
Well, now we have six of the most awaited sequels with
a brand new cast and we don’t know whether to be happy or sad for that. While
letting go of the old cast will be a bit hard for the fans, the thought of how
the new cast fares would be definitely interesting to watch.
