Sridevi: 'Case Closed'. 'Body Reaches Dubai Airport'. 'Funeral Tomorrow'.
Police in Dubai have closed the case into the death of
Sridevi. Following the completion of a "comprehensive investigation"
into the circumstances of Sridevi's death, her body has now been approved for
release. Her family members were handed the letters for the release of her
mortal remains this afternoon. It took the family three days to receive her
mortal remains due to police and forensic investigations. Her body is now being embalmed before being
flown to India for her funeral.
The actress, 54, died on Saturday. It had initially
been reported that she died of cardiac arrest but police and forensic
investigations later revealed the cause of death as accidental drowning in the
bathtub following loss of consciousness.
Ever since the police challenged the initial cause of
her death there was a tremendous amount of confusion on exactly what transpired
in the last hours of Sridevi's life.
Sridevi was in her room in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers
Hotel when she breathed her last. But what exactly happened in the last few
hours before the Rashid Hospital in Dubai declared Sridevi was 'brought dead'
was shrouded in mystery.
Boney Kapoor, who had flown back to India along with
his younger daughter Khushi, flew back to Dubai and reached Sridevi's hotel
room in Dubai on Saturday evening, around 5.30pm, to surprise her.
Boney and Sridevi are said to have had a brief
conversation, after which the couple decided to have dinner together. Sridevi
went to the restroom to freshen up. 15 minutes after she went in and Boney
received no response from her, he broke open the door and found Sridevi lying
motionless in the bathtub.
Kapoor then tried to revive his wife and when he was
unable to do that he called a friend. After that, he informed the police at
9pm. Soon Sridevi was rushed to the Rashid Hospital in Dubai, where she was
declared brought dead.
To ensure there was no foul play involved in the death
of Sridevi the Dubai Police decided to hold back the body till they had
thoroughly investigated the case and come to a logical conclusion. For the last
three days, Sridevi's body remained with Dubai
authorities.
Sridevi's mortal remains were claimed by the family
members including her husband Boney Kapoor. The latest news being that
Sridevi's mortal remains are on its way to Dubai airport from they will be
flown back in a charted plane provided by the Ambanis. Since the body will not
reach until close to midnight it has been decided that Sridevi's funeral will
be held at 3 pm on Wednesday at the Vile Parle crematorium, Mumbai.
