Thousands Lines Up On Either Side Of The Streets For The Final Journey Of Sridevi.

After much heartache and sorrow, and a universal outpouring of grief, the cremation for Sridevi has finally taken place, after her husband Boney Kapoor performed the last rites.

The Kapoors had announced that well-wishers can visit the Celebration Club near Sridevi's home, where a prayer meeting will be held between 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The prayer hall has since opened its doors to allow the grieving public to pay their last respects to the late actor.

Inside the club, the actor’s body was placed on a raised platform in a hall decorated with flowers. Her extended family, including her husband, the producer Boney Kapoor, and her two daughters besides brother-in-law Anil Kapoor and step son Arjun Kapoor, stood by the platform as fans and colleagues walked past in respect.

Stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Rekha, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Akshay Khanna, Tabu, Jacqueline Fernandez and many more had arrived for the prayer meeting held at the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala.

The family said media can also pay their respects "provided camera, recording devices etc. are left outside the venue". But photographs emerged on news sites showing Sridevi’s body dressed in a vibrant magenta and gold sari with a heavy gold necklace and a large red bindi marking.

Sridevi was accorded a cremation ceremony with state honours. By late afternoon, her body, wrapped in an Indian flag, began its journey from the club to the crematorium, where her funeral took place according to Hindu customs. The body was carried in a truck decorated with flowers and a giant poster of the actor.

Sridevi, monikered Indian cinema's first woman superstar, is survived by her husband Boney Kapoor and their two daughters Jahnvi and Khushi.
